Finding Pewe

Hi,

Picture of Pewe the dog in a E-Collar after being found and adopted from a shelter.

You will never guess what happened to me when I was roaming the streets a few weeks ago. First, let me introduce myself.  My name is Pewe, It is thought that I am around 8 years old,  I am a long hair Chihuahua and I’m a little boy.

On this particular day, I was taking a walk, and wham a car bumped my hip. It threw me into a  puddle of water at the side of the road. I have no idea how long I had been laying there when a lady saw me, she stopped her car and picked me up. It kind of hurt but I didn’t care because I was in a lot of pain, plus it was scary laying there on the road with all those cars driving by and some got really close. Anyway, sheput me on the seat beside her and then drove to a Vet Care place. She told the lady at the counter how she found me and that she could tell I couldn’t walk because of something being wrong with my hip. She also told her she was just there to leave me and that she couldn’t pay for anything or keep me she just didn’t want to leave me on the road. Well, before the lady could reply another lady that was sitting in the waiting area with a great big dog, that I later found out was a Great Dane, jumped up and said she would take me. Both of the ladies were kind of shocked but she said as far as she was concerned unless I had a ‘chip’ that said otherwise, she would keep me. Wow, that was nice to hear because I don’t think I lived with anyone for a long time. I had to find different places to sleep and usually haven’t had much to eat. Before the rescue lady left she gave the lady at the counter her phone number so she could call her and let her know if they could save me. Wow, I never thought that maybe I could die.

After the lady left the new lady took me and the big dog into a room and sat me on a table. Then a different lady came in and took me to the back. I really started getting scared. She was really nice though and was very gentle with me. She took me to another table where a person I later found out was a doctor, checked me. He told her to take an x-ray of my hip. It turned out it was not broken just dislocated. Well, you would never guess what happened then…really. The doctor yanked really hard on my leg and my hip popped back into place. It really hurt but not so much after he was done. Then it just felt sore. The lady wrapped it up so it was tight to my body. That really made it feel better. It turns out I also had a big growth on the ankle area of my right leg that the doctor also needed to remove. I had to be put to sleep for that. And you won’t believe what happened next. It turns out that in today’s time all pets are supposed to be ‘fixed’. I wasn’t sure exactly what the doctor was going to do but he was going to do it when he removed the growth which meant my ‘manhood’ so he called it, would be gone when I woke up. OMG! The doctor also said he was going to scan for a chip. He lost me there because I can’t say as I remember having a chip inside me. Anyway, he couldn’t find one.

I went home with the lady after the surgery but I had to go back for one other minor injury to be repaired at which time the doctor was going to look again for a chip. The lady actually isn’t ‘the lady’ anymore, she’s mummy.  And that big dog is my sister. Mummy told me she couldn’t wait to give me a bath after I am healed from my surgeries. Whenever she says the word bath, Sister’s ears go down so I’m thinking this is not going to be a good thing.

Ok, now comes the really good part of the story. The first time the doctor looked for a chip, he couldn’t find one so he looked again when I had the last procedure done and this time he found one. Mummy didn’t seem too happy about it though. It seems the humans that owned me lived in a little town 50 miles from here. When the lady at the clinic talked to her she was thrilled that I was alive. It seems I was only a year old when I disappeared. They thought I had been killed by a coyote or hawk or something. We also found out that this happened seven years ago so I am eight years old. My human that I live with now told the veterinarian that she would give me back only if she was given the $2500. She just spent it on me. The first owners said they were glad  I am alive and in a good home now but they didn’t want me back. Mummy was really happy about that and so were Sister and me.

So, this story has a happy ending. I still haven’t had a bath yet. Oh, I think I spoke too soon.  Mummy just picked me up and Sister ran out of the laundry room.  The big deep sink in the laundry room has bubble water in it. Now Mummy has taken my harness off and is…oh my goodness, oh, oh, oh, I do think I’m going to like this. Oh yes, taking a bath feels good.  Oh yes, this is nice. I really do like living with a human and her big dog.
